Groundhog Day

Phil Connors is a pretty awful guy.
But when the cynical Pittsburgh TV weatherman is sent to cover the kooky annual Groundhog Day event in the small town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, he finds himself caught in a time loop that sends him on a hilarious path to enlightenment and redemption.

The Tempest

On a distant island a man waits.
Robbed of his position, power and wealth, his enemies have left him in isolation. But this is no ordinary man, and this no ordinary island. Prospero is a magician, able to control the very elements and bend nature to his will. When a sail appears on the horizon, he reaches out across the ocean to the ship that carries the men who wronged him. Creating a vast magical storm he wrecks the ship and washes his enemies up on the shore. When they wake they find themselves lost on a fantastical island where nothing is as it seems.

Buddy Hobbs, a young orphan child, mistakenly crawls into Santa Claus' bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole. After discovering the baby, Santa and his elves decide to raise the child as an elf. Years later, Buddy finds out that he's actually a human being and, at Santa's prompting, heads off to New York City in search of his father, Walter Hobbs. MD: Alan Williams

Much Ado About Nothing

Director Roy Alexander Weise (joint Artistic Director of the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester) makes his RSC debut. Set designed by the award-winning Jemima Robinson, the production features costume designs by Melissa Simon-Hartman, who has designed for Beyoncé and Notting Hill Carnival, and an original score by Nigerian-born British guitarist and MOBO award-nominated musician Femi Temowo whose past collaborators include Amy Winehouse and The Roots.
Avenue Q & Little Shop of Horros

The streets of New York are coming to the heart of Birmingham with two of Broadway's best-loved musicals. Avenue Q and Little Shop of Horrors will run back to back with the same cast performing both productions. This Summer Rep Season is produced by the same team who brought the Broadway World UK Award nominated The Full Monty to the Old Joint Stock Theatre in 2018.

The Boy in the Dress

Dennis is 12 years old and his school football team’s star striker. But when Mum leaves home, life is tough. The only reminder Dennis has of Mum is a photo of her in a beautiful yellow dress. A dress rather like the one on the cover of Vogue on sale at Raj’s newsagents. And also a bit like the one that Lisa James, the coolest girl in the school, is sketching in her note book. What do you do if you like both football and dresses? And what will Mr Hawtrey the headteacher do when he discovers that his strict uniform code has been broken by a boy in a dress?
David Walliams’ heart-warming comedy is brought to the stage for the first time in a musical with all new songs from Robbie Williams and Guy Chambers, script by former RSC playwright in residence Mark Ravenhill and in a production for all the family directed by RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran.

The Full Monty

The Full Monty is a 10-time Tony Award nominated musical adaptation of the film of the same name. A group of unemployed steelworkers from Buffalo catch their wives enjoying a night out watching a touring company of Chippendales. Jealous, out of work and feeling emasculated, the men come up with a bold and unclothed way to make some quick cash. Desperate to make their show better than the Chippendales, Jerry declares that his group of misfits will go “The Full Monty”. As they prepare for the show, working through their fears, self-consciousness, and anxieties, they overcome their inner demons and in their camaraderie try to find the strength to “let it go”. Directed by Adam Lacey with Music by David Yazbek.

Snow In Midsummer
